Nonprofit Provides Checkup Services For Tulsa Pet Owners Struggling With Homelessness One of the ballrooms at the former Wyndham Hotel near 41st and Highway 169 - now called Hotel to Housing - has been transformed by the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals. No matter your housing situation, pets can provide companionship and comfort and so we really want to help them keep their pets healthy, said OAA Executive Director Erin Shackelford.  This is an event for the people with Housing Solutions Tulsa who live at the former hotel and have animals they are struggling to take care of. The Pet Fair was funded by OAA.

US Humane Society Calls Out Problematic Puppy Mill Inspections In Oklahoma The Humane Society of the United States recently put out its list of the worst puppy mills in the country. Oklahoma is not on the list, but just because Oklahoma didn t make the Horrible Hundred, doesn t mean the state is doing a good job cracking down on illegal puppy mills. In fact, John Goodwin with the Humane Society said it s just the opposite. The fact is, there are some horrible puppy mills in Oklahoma, and it doesn t look like anybody is doing anything to try to help those dogs, Goodwin said.

By: Kristen Weaver Freezing temperatures have veterinarians and animal rescue groups worried about pets being outside. At the Pine Ridge Equine Hospital in Glenpool, horses of all ages get specialized care and surgery. Even though most horses are made to be outdoors in all kinds of weather, freezing temperatures can still affect them.  The biggest thing most horse owners are worried about is making sure they stay hydrated, said Dr. Garrett Metcalf, an equine surgeon and veterinarian.  In the winter, horses eat more hay and grain, which can lead to colic, a painful and possibly deadly intestinal problem. Winter is impactions, they re eating a dry diet, there s no access to fresh green grass, Metcalf said.
