The Criminal Justice Advisory Council Board voted on ways to improve conditions at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Officials said the jail was built as a maximum-security building but most of the inmates don t qualify for needing that. They voted to come up with a plan to give the jail trust in November. They are looking into three options, either renovate the inside, add an annex building or just completely demolish the jail and start over. The jail is really not equipped to handle somebody who has substance abuse problems even medical problems, said Tim Tardibone, the board’s executive director. Tardibone said the jail has needed a remodel for years now. Remember the jail was built for 1,200 maximum security cells, and that s not the majority of the people in the jail right now, Tardibone said.
