The delayed reopening of Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa Rotorua Museum will come at no extra cost, the council says. It was revealed this week that refurbishment of the museum would not be finished until 2025, three years behind schedule.
The 112-year-old building was closed in 2016 after being damaged in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Kaikoura.

Checkpoint reported on a heated public meeting about the Rotorua Lakes Council proposal that could see the 70-year-old course absorbed into a new recreation precinct, which would also include housing. The whole idea is absolutely repugnant to most residents, Saving Springfield president Robert Lee told

That s how the leader of a group created to save Rotorua s Springfield Golf Club stared down the council at a sometimes rowdy community meeting on Monday evening.
The meeting, to discuss the proposed Westbrook Sports and Recreation Precinct, attracted about 150 members of the public, several councillors and the mayor.
It also saw one councillor accusing the council of propaganda surrounding the proposal.

The proposal, if approved, would see the 70-year-old golf course, on leased council land, made into a combination of sports fields and housing.

The opening of the Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa Rotorua Museum has been delayed to complete more site investigations.
It is expected to open in 2025.
The museum is in the Bath House building which will also be delayed.
The Bath House was initially expected to open next year, however, construction of the Bath House building is likely to start in 2022 with a build time of about two years.
