Houstonians are a hardy bunch of folks but this past winter storm coupled with an ongoing pandemic and political back-biting about energy has some of us ready to throw in the towel. One of the hardest hit industries is the hospitality sector with restaurants, cafes, bars and food purveyors falling victim to not only the weather but power outages and water issues that had many of them closings their doors this week.
Most of our restaurants have reopened in some form or another. Some are doing only take-away. Others are offering dine-in, a welcome respite for those who have eaten weenie-beanies and canned tuna for the past week. While many are back to offering their full menus, others may have limited menu items due to supply issues. HOUSTON – Local firefighters have been responding to several home and apartment fires as millions go without electricity and heat for days.
On Monday, there was an apartment fire that left 80 residents displaced and two other house fires, one being fatal.
Due to the weather and power outages, many cities are experiencing low water pressure, making it more difficult for firefighters to battle the fires.
About 28 units were affected by the fire, forcing 50-60 residents to seek shelter in the middle of a winter storm that has knocked out power to millions of Texans.
Kuykendahl Road widening project underway. Here’s what you can expect

SPRING, Texas – The road widening construction has started this month on Kuykendahl Road.
The construction contractor, WadeCon LLC, began the construction after the project was approved for funding from the 2015 road bond by voters. The bid amount for the project construction was $3,566,246 and it is a 1 -year contract, according to a news release.
The project will complete a four-lane boulevard from Lake Woodlands Drive to Research Forest Drive.
“I am ecstatic that we are able to fund this project through the savings we had from the other road bond projects,” Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack said. “This and the Gosling Bridge widening project are the final projects for Precinct 3 from the 2015 road bond.”
