The path to enrolling and graduating from college can be challenging – especially for adult learners who may be juggling family, full- and part-time jobs and bills.
To help meet Gov. Whitmer’s Sixty by 30 credential attainment goal and provide students with the critical support they need to successfully enroll in classes and complete a skill certificate or associate degree program, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) has hired ten Michigan Reconnect Navigators (Navigators) and invested $430,000 into the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) College Completion Corps to support Michigan’s adult students.

The Mendel Center is looking for some volunteers. Director Grace Kelmer tells WSJM News says with the new season approaching and things returning to normal, it’s now taking applications from those who would like to help. The Mendel Center relies on a team of volunteers every year to help shows go off without a hitch.
“We really couldn’t do what we do without the volunteers,” Kelmer said. “On every one of our big, theatrical events, we have anywhere from 30 to 60 or 70 volunteers at each event, and they are the touch point for every patron who comes through the doors, every visitor.”

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus and Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Ken “Hawk” Harrelson will return to Benton Harbor for a special scholarship fundraiser event supporting Lake Michigan College students this summer. “Lake Michigan College Legends Scholarship Fundraiser with Jack Nicklaus and Ken Harrelson” will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 8 at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor. The event will feature a conversation with Nicklaus and Harrelson, followed by a Q&A session.
