Police charge woman with 10 offences after police vehicle rammed at Lake Eacham

Date Time Police charge woman with 10 offences after police vehicle rammed at Lake Eacham A 23-year-old Atherton woman has been charged with 10 offences after a police vehicle was allegedly rammed at Lake Eacham in the state’s Far North this morning (May 9). Police will allege they attended a carpark at a Lake Barrine business around 8am after responding to calls from motorists regarding a vehicle being driven erratically up the Gillies Range. Officers spoke to the female driver, who locked herself in the vehicle, however she failed to exit the car and sped off. Police later located the vehicle on a closed section of Wrights Creek Road at Lake Eacham, with the car cornered against concrete bollards of a closed bridge around 8.40am.

First Australian evidence of a major shift in Earth s magnetic poles discovered -- Science & Technology -- Sott net

© NASA Goddard / Bailee DesRocher The Sun expels a constant outflow of particles and magnetic fields known as the solar wind and vast clouds of hot plasma and radiation called coronal mass ejections. This solar material streams across space and strikes Earth’s magnetosphere, the space occupied by Earth’s magnetic field, which acts like a protective shield around the planet. About 41,000 years ago, something remarkable happened: Earth s magnetic field flipped and, for a temporary period, magnetic north was south and magnetic south was north. Palaeomagnetists refer to this as a geomagnetic excursion. This event, which is different to a complete magnetic pole reversal, occurs irregularly through time and reflects the dynamics of Earth s molten outer core.

We found the first Australian evidence of a major shift in Earth s magnetic poles It may help us predict the next

About 41,000 years ago, something remarkable happened: Earth’s magnetic field flipped and, for a temporary period, magnetic north was south and magnetic south was north. Palaeomagnetists refer to this as a geomagnetic excursion. This event, which is different to a complete magnetic pole reversal, occurs irregularly through time and reflects the dynamics of Earth’s molten outer core. The strength of Earth’s magnetic field would have almost vanished during the event, called the Laschamp excursion, which lasted a few thousand years. Earth’s magnetic field acts as a shield against high-energy particles from the Sun and outside the solar system. Without it the planet would be bombarded by these charged particles.

Six of the best reasons to visit tropical North Queensland in the wet season

Six of the best reasons to visit tropical North Queensland in the wet season SHARE Share   Summer in Tropical North Queensland is known as The Big Wet (don t worry, most of the rainfall comes in short, sharp afternoon downpours). It produces a spectacular side-effect – waterfalls. You don t have to drive far out of Cairns to see some of the best: Crystal Cascades is 20 minutes drive west, while the Waterfall Circuit begins 45 minutes from the city. It takes in some of TNQ s most spectacular falls, like Millaa Millaa Falls, Australia s most photographed falls. Or go a few kilometres beyond to Millstream Falls (Australia s widest single-drop waterfall). It s worth driving four hours (or two hours from Townsville) for Wallaman Falls, Australia s highest waterfall. See tropicalnorthqueensland.org.au
