East Bay authorities on Wednesday said they were investigating and working to identify the human remains found this week at Lake Chabot Regional Park.
East Bay Regional Park District officers responded to the park on Monday at about 2 p.m. after an individual reported “partially decomposed remains” at the park in Castro Valley, police said. Authorities are working with Alameda County’s coroner’s unit to identify the person.

The East Bay Regional Park District Police Department said Wednesday that partially decomposed human remains were discovered at Lake Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley on April 26.
The Alameda County Sheriff s Office s Coroner s Bureau is carrying out an autopsy with investigators and a pathologist today, and will release more details when it s available, according to police. The remains were found by a park user who was taking a break from exercising and made the discovery and called 911, said Cpt. Alan Love.

Ridgeline locations of the East Bay Regional Park District will be closed from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Friday due to extreme weather conditions and likely cleanup needs, officials said. High winds can cause falling trees and branches, which can cause injury and create safety hazards, the district said in an announcement.
Gusts as of 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday night were as high as 63 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
