Welcome to this week’s sprawling Midwest Fishing Report:
LAKEFRONT PERCH
Most consistent action has been for boaters up the Calumet, Slez’s reported best from 105th to the Ford plant; South Side slips have had some good days for shore anglers finding any spot they can. Security varies in dealing with fishing private property around South Side slips. Steelworkers Park at 87th is public land.
AREA LAKES
Conditions vary from lake to lake, but there’s some fishable ice. Larry Green: He and Charlie Mack found fishable ice at Forest Preserves of Cook County over the weekend and caught largemouth bass. Ken “Husker” O’Malley: He hopes to be ice fishing by the weekend south of the city, where he found 4 inches of ice on shore, dropping to 2 inches.

Thunder Bay – The provincial lockdown has most businesses closed. However on New Years Day, if you are in need of anything, there are some businesses which will be open.
For groceries, SKAFS in Current River will be open.
Shopper’s Drug Mart locations will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 am.
Thunder Bay Transit is operating on a holiday schedule.
Government offices, banks, restaurants are closed.
Fuel up your vehicle… some service stations will be closed.
Convenience stores will be operating.
Thunder Bay Police, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, Superior EMS, and the OPP will all be open. If your plan for the holiday is a few beverages of an intoxicating nature, please respect the lives of others, if not your own and don’t drink and drive.
It didn t take Howard Pounds long to come up with an answer. Fried frog legs and fried shrimp at Lewis Lake, Pounds said during a break from his job at Duckworth Farm Supply. I love em.
Drum roll ⦠How many frog legs can you eat, Howard?
After a big laugh, he says, I can eat about a dozen of them. That s a dozen pairs of legs. So that s actually 24 frog legs. Yea, I can put them away without any problem.
For the record, frog legs are similar to chicken wings in taste and texture.Â
If Howard Pounds had spiked blonde hair, he might be Guy Fieri and have his own show on the Food Network. Howard s SPORTSMiX (dog food) cap will have to do as his look. Fieri has featured over 1,500 mom and pop restaurants around the country on his show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Howard, on the other hand, has probably eaten at every mom and pop restaurant within a 50-mile radius of Baldwin County.

Ice fishing leads this sprawling raw-file Midwest Fishing Report, but the storm may impact that; otherwise, it is perch and burbot on the lakefront.
Bob France messaged the photo above and this on Sunday:
We ventured out on four inches of ice on a neighborhood pond in Roselle!
LAKEFRONT PERCH
The center of the action remains the Calumet system and the South Side slips. Security varies in its dealings with fishing on the private property areas around the South Side slips. The small piece of Steelworkers Park at the eastern end of 87th is public land.
Arden Katz said perch are still in at the South Side slips, key for his success is using a pencil weight with two Mini-Miters tied a foot apart a foot above, then snap retrieving.
