Environment Canada is warning snow expected New Year’s Day afternoon in the Sarnia area, and across southwestern Ontario, could switch to freezing rain by early evening.
Highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery, and ice buildup could cause tree branches to break, leading to the power outages, the agency said.

This precipitation is associated with a low pressure system moving north from Texas that is expected to track near the south shore of Lake Erie Friday evening. The freezing rain could turn to snow or rain by midnight, Environment Canada said.
