On February 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will square off in Super Bowl LV, aka a massive excuse to order decadent nachos from your favourite Toronto restaurants.
This year’s game is expected to be the most streamed Super Bowl in history, and even if you’re not a football fan you might want to tune in and catch the Weeknd’s half-time show.
Like her fellow restaurateurs, Dawn Chapman the owner of adorable east-end café and restaurant Lazy Daisy’s has pulled many a pandemic-pivot to adapt to the circumstances: she streamlined the café’s floor plan and menu; created an online pantry selling products sourced from the Toronto Food Terminal, and even used her own car to make deliveries. Chapman also endeavoured to help her neighbourhood by adding a ‘donations’ option on the café’s website, where customers could select groceries to be donated directly to a local food bank. “I felt good working side by side with my son to fill up the trunk of our car and deliver those donations. Everyone rallied together and the cafe pulled through that first phase of lockdown.”

Well, the holidays are fast approaching, and Covid, like that house guest that doesn’t know when to leave, is still here. So ’tis the season for a socially separate celebration. But there’s no need to get all bah humbug about it. While this year may mean sacrificing visits with family and friends, you can still celebrate the true reason for the season eating and drinking until you’re numb.
