The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) has ordered all bystanders, hawkers, highway traders and petroleum tankers at Eke Obinagu, on the Enugu-Abakaliki-Cameroon Highway, to vacate all sides of the Trans-African Expressway within 14 days or face severe sanctions, including demolition of structures and prosecution of offenders.
The Eke-Obinagu Road market has experienced perennial traffic worsened by the menace of petroleum tankers parked on both sides of the road.
The most recently ghastly auto crash on the road claimed the life of the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Fidelis Nweze.
Travellers and motorists are usually held up in traffic for hours in the Emene axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway on account of congestion caused by heavy-duty trucks and petroleum tankers parked by the sides of the road and commercial activities in Eke-Obinagu market.

ANOTHER crisis is said to have reared its ugly head in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, despite efforts by the present administration to maintain peace and order in the State.
Vanguard gathered that the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway has been blocked as commuters and drivers are not moving in and outside the State.
A Traveller who spoke to Vanguard on phone and do not want his name in print, said:
“I Am coming from Enugu and we are now trapped along the Highway. One of the soldiers on the highway told us 10 persons were killed but we are shocked about what we are seeing on the paper now that only two persons were killed, which one do we believe.

The movement of vehicles and passengers along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway has been halted following heavy shootings at the Ezilo axis of the highway by suspected gunmen.
As of the time of filing this report, it was not immediately clear those responsible for the shootings.
Reports said two persons were killed in a renewed boundary dispute between Eziulo community and its neighbouring Iyionu community, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Equally, it could not be immediately established if the shooting is connected with the dispute.
A passenger from Enugu, who was billed for Abakaliki, Afam Cyprian, said travellers have been stranded at Okpoto for about one hour.
