Losing 100 stone in just seven months sounds impossible – but with plenty of community spirit, a few less lockdown treats and a dash of exercise, one dedicated group has done just that. After putting on a few extra pounds during the March 2020 lockdown, Whitehaven Town Councillor Carl Walmsley launched the Mirehouse Matters weight loss challenge back in July, in a bid to help his ward kick the habit of constant snacking, and say goodbye to unwanted extra weight. The goal was to lose 100 stone across the estate, with residents of all ages getting involved – and after 28 weeks, the final weigh in on January 29 revealed a weight loss of 102st 6lbs.
