Liverpool Council s Director of Regeneration, Nick Kavanagh, was pulled from his Cunard Building office and arrested on December 18 2019 as part of Merseyside Police s Operation Aloft investigation, which is investigating building and development contracts in the city.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Google today announced the expansion of the Grow with Google HBCU Career Readiness Program into sixteen new Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including North Carolina Central University and Saint Augustine’s University in North Carolina. Through a $1 million investment in the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), the program provides digital skills workshops in HBCU career centers to help Black students prepare for the workforce. Announced in October, the initiative’s goal is to reach 20,000 students during the current school year. Today’s announcement brings the number of participating schools to twenty. The program will be available to all HBCUs by fall 2021.

Maude Jones of Rock Springs Elementary dies of COVID

A Gwinnett County educator, mother, and friend has died following a battle with COVID-19.  According to friends, Maude Jones tested positive for the virus after being exposed while working at Rock Springs Elementary School. The 68-year-old paraprofessional had plans to retire from Rock Springs Elementary after the fall semester, but friends say she never got the chance after contracting COVID-19. “She basically said she was going home to quarantine for 14 days, but we didn’t know it was all going downhill, said Angela Coleman, a friend of Jones.
