MH council may further restrict ATVs | News, Sports, Jobs

MILL HALL Driving a recreational vehicle in Mill Hall Borough could require pre-approval. Reacting to complaints about people driving or riding recreational vehicles such as ATVs and dirt bikes whereever they want despite an existing ordinance restricting it council last week voted 5-1 to amend the law regulating the activity and adding a stipulation that requires neighbors’ consent. The restriction was given tentative approval, not final adoption. Voting for the amendment on Jan. 26 were Councilmembers Karen Houser, Dan McCloskey, Rainelle Wallace, Fred Bucheit and Karla Hoy. Council President Anthony Walker voted no. Councilman John Gugliociello Jr. was absent. The council will need to vote again to adopt it as an amendment to the borough ordinance.

LANA MUTHLER lmuthler@lockhaven.com LOCK HAVEN “It’s like we don’t exist on the state’s map,” Clinton County Commissioner Miles Kessinger remarked during discussion about the state of Clinton County when it comes to receiving the COVID vaccine. The comment came at Thursday night’s commissioners’ meeting after Clinton County Director of Emergency Services Andrew Kremser reported that 1,600 people in Clinton County have received the first dose of vaccine and 248 county residents have gotten their second shot. Kessinger said that 180,000 doses of the vaccine were put out in the state this week, but very few came to this area.

LANA MUTHLER lmuthler@lockhaven.com LOCK HAVEN As local residents await their turn to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, they can be assured the county has been working with UPMC and Geisinger on a vaccination schedule and will be prepared to put shots in arms when the vaccine arrives. Clinton County Commissioner Angela Harding reported on a recent meeting of the Community Coalition, which was formed last year and has been monitoring COVID-19 in the county, at Thursday’s meeting of the commissioners. Harding said the county has been working hard to get the information on when vaccines will be available for distribution.

They didn’t mince their words. Board chairman Michael Pipe, spoke first. “Essentially, you had an insurrection led by the President of the United States. It’s not a mistake how we got here. I think if you look at the type of things that have been said and done over the last four or five years, it’s not a mistake,” Pipe, a Democrat, said.

County s hourly employees receive 2 5 percent pay raise | News, Sports, Jobs

LAURA JAMESON ljameson@lockhaven.com LOCK HAVEN Non-salary, full-time county employees received a 2.5 percent increase across the board to start off 2021. The increase for an employee making over $100,000 is 0.5 percent. Chief Clerk Jann Meyers said the county employs only one person in the IT Department who qualifies for the lower rate. The Clinton County Salary Board made up of commissioners Miles Kessinger, Jeff Snyder and Angela Harding and Treasurer Michelle Kunes –unanimously approved the action at Monday’s meeting. Along with the increase, the board approved a resolution for President Judge Craig P. Miller’s office to compensate Clinton County Adult and Juvenile Probation Officers, as follows:
