Eiko Harada, the former chairman of McDonald s Holdings Co. (Japan), was arrested by Tokyo police on Feb. 6 on suspicion of spousal violence, investigative sources said.
Harada, who is 72 and also served as president of Apple Japan Inc. and chairman and president of Benesse Holdings Inc., denied the allegation, the sources said.
Harada was arrested after his wife, who is in her 50s, called the police to report that her husband attacked her, including kicking her in the leg, at their home in Tokyo on Jan. 5.

Eiko Harada, who has served as the head of the Japanese subsidiaries of McDonald s Corp. and Apple Inc., has been arrested for alleged domestic violence, Tokyo police said Saturday.
Harada, 72, was arrested on Friday after his wife, who is in her 50s, called the police to say that she had been beaten by her husband, they said.
Harada is credited with reviving Apple s operations in Japan as the head of the computer firm s local subsidiary from 1997 to 2004 and successfully restructuring the Japanese business of McDonald s as its CEO between 2004 and 2013.

Tokyo, Feb. 6 (Jiji Press) Tokyo police arrested Eiko Harada, former president of hamburger chain McDonald’s Co. (Japan), on Saturday on suspicion of assault.
Harada, 72, allegedly kicked his wife in her leg at their home in Tokyo on Friday. His wife in her 50s called the police.
Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department did not reveal whether the suspect has admitted to the charges.
Harada has also served as president of educational service provider Benesse Holdings Inc. 9783 . Since December 2019, he has been serving as chairman of Gong cha Japan, a unit of Taiwanese bubble tea chain Gong cha.
