Global OEM Selects Eaton’s Power Distribution Technology for New Electric Vehicle Platform Tuesday, April 6, 2021 4:41PM IST (11:11AM GMT)   Southfield, Mich., United States:   Power management company Eaton today announced its eMobility business secured a contract to supply power distribution units (PDUs) and Bussmann™ series fuses to a global vehicle manufacturer for use in a new battery electric (BEV) light-duty commercial vehicle, which is a rapidly growing segment for BEVs. Hitachi ABB Power Grids bets on growth in RE, discoms privatisation

Power technology major Hitachi ABB Power Grids is betting on growth in renewable energy (RE) in India and evacuation of the same. The company registered a 200 per cent year-on-year growth in the renewables segment with about 8.5 GW of cumulative solar orders from major energy companies. Speaking with Business Standard, N Venu, managing director-India, Hitachi ABB Power Grids, said the pipeline for renewable projects remains healthy. “We have seen good activity in solar and wind and have been able to get transformer and sub-station orders from large players in the renewables segment from different parts of India. Our offerings are not limited to integration, but also efficient transmission of utility scale renewable power, with minimum footprint, and process automation and asset management that offer intelligent insight into mission critical assets,” Venu said.

VW aims to overtake Tesla with huge push into battery production

Volkswagen plans to halve the cost of power systems for electric cars over the next decade in a massive investment push that could knock Tesla off its perch. The German giant will build six factories capable of producing 240 gigawatt hours of batteries a year in Europe over the next decade. This is enough to provide batteries for 4m cars, equivalent to just over 40pc of Volkswagen Group’s annual vehicle production. Herbert Diess, the VW chief executive, said: “E-mobility has won the race. Our goal is to secure a pole position in the global scaling of batteries.” The plans - estimated to cost about £20bn - means VW will abandon its reliance on external battery suppliers. It is also a definitive statement from the one of the world’s largest automotive companies that electric is the future for transportation.
