GER - Ford invests $1 billion in Cologne EV centre, speeds up electrification schedule
US Big Three auto producer Ford is speeding up its electrification schedule in Europe, driven by a $1 billion electric vehicle manufacturing centre investment in Cologne, Germany.
Ford’s new goals include 100% of its passenger vehicles in Europe being zero-emissions capable by mid-2026, with that shifting to 100% all-electric by 2030.
Its European commercial fleet will reach 100% zero-emissions capable by 2024, Kallanish understands.
“We successfully restructured Ford of Europe and returned to profitability in the fourth quarter of 2020. Now we are charging into an all-electric future in Europe with expressive new vehicles and a world-class connected customer experience,” says Ford of Europe president Stuart Rowley.

The company is investing heavily in e-mobility; on the supply chain side, rise in commodity prices remains a challenge
Engine maker and engineering company Greaves Cotton’s diversification strategy, which began four years ago, has paid off amid the pandemic, and the 162-year-old company will continue to invest towards diversification, a top company official said.
During the third quarter of the fiscal year, Greaves Cotton has seen every business vertical growing, except for its auto engines business, due to the pandemic’s impact on shared mobility and commercial vehicles. On a year-on-year basis, in Q3, the company’s auto engines’ business declined by 56 per cent, while non-auto engines grew by 44 per cent. Its genset and light equipment business grew overall by 25 per cent, while its e-mobility products business grew by 28 per cent.
There is huge momentum behind the electrification of transport and while the environmental benefits are clear, there are also significant commercial rewards for the fastest movers in the evolving electric mobility (eMobility) ecosystem. A new study from EY and Eurelectric, Accelerating fleet electrification in Europe: When does reinventing the wheel make perfect sense?, concludes that fleet electrification should lead the way and will make the biggest and fastest contribution to the decarbonization of road transport.
