Emergency funding for veterans organizations starting to flow

Hughes says while the need to assist veteran’s organizations was obvious, it took a concerted effort to convince the government to act.

Photo supplied by Espanola Legion The Espanola Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 has received local and national funding to help support veterans and maintain the branch. Legion President Gary McPherson accepted a $1,000 cheque from Canadian Tire’s Sharon Goudreau. The branch also received just over $10,000 in financial aid as part of a federal program. McPherson says the support on both levels is much needed and much appreciated by veterans and Legion members.

Elks Christmas Hamper Fundraiser raises over $5,000

Article content On Saturday, Nov. 28, the 43rd Annual Elks Hamper Fundraiser took place at the Espanola Mall with the assistance of Rosalind Russell morning host from Moose 99.3FM CJJM, who provided cheery Holiday tunes for the occasion. Gary Tennant, organizer of the event, disclosed that while some monies were still coming in, at least $5,164 has been raised from in person donations and over the phone pledges.
