CBS All Access only rebranded as Paramount+ in March, but the latest combatant in the streaming wars is already making some serious moves to establish itself as a major player right out of the gate. As well as pulling the long-awaited
Halo series from Showtime to position it as one of the platform’s marquee episodic projects, big hitters like
Mission: Impossible 7 are set to arrive just 45 days after they premiere theatrically.

Mark Wahlberg‘s blockbuster sci-fi actioner
May 6, 2021
During ViacomCBS’ first-quarter earnings call today, CEO Bob Bakish has announced that director Antoine Fuqua’s long-delayed sci-fi action thriller
Infinite is now officially heading to Paramount+ as they dropped their initial U.S. theatrical release plans for the film. Originally slated to arrive in theaters on September 24, the Mark Wahlberg-led feature will now be making its debut this June, exclusively on Paramount+.
In addition, Bakish also revealed their plans to expand the streaming service’s movie content, teasing that upcoming and current subscribers should expect the addition of 1,000 movies to its current movie library. He also confirmed that Paramount is planning to build up its original film content and is hoping that by 2022, they would be able to release one original movie per week.
Infinite, which originally had MCU mainstay Chris Evans in the leading role, is based on author D. Eric Maikranz s novel
The Reincarnationist Papers, following the universe-saving exploits of the aptly-named group of gifted immortals collectively known as “The Infinite.” Wahlberg stars as Evan McCauley, a man nearing a nervous breakdown thanks to memories and abilities he has no direct recollection of acquiring. With humanity facing an existential threat, The Infinite recognizes what’s really going on with Evan (like them, he’s lived several past lives and wields immense power but can recall none of it).but the catch is that they must persuade Evan that he’s the key to saving the world.

Quick, give us an answer: should you read the book before you see the movie, or should you see the movie and then dive into the book? It’s a heated debate as old as time and one with no right answer but luckily, 2021 comes bearing plenty of cinematic offerings on which we can all test out best practices.
We’ve taken the liberty of rounding up the year’s best and brightest book to movie adaptations, from cozy period pieces to black comedies and horror thrillers. Some of these films are already out, meaning that you can stream them now and tackle that whole book part later, if that s your thing. Others will surface later this year, so while you eagerly await their release dates, you may as well dive into the books for a sneak preview.
