Lake County’s first-come, first-served drive-in was running like clockwork Wednesday after the Health Department received 12,600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
It starts at 9 a.m. at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center on U.S. 27.
The county hopes to open a site farther north, as well.

Dave and Karen Smith, ages 70 and 69, drove from The Villages to get vaccinated in Lake County.
“It’s an impossible situation. I feel great empathy for the public officials who are trying to deal with it because you couldn’t no human being or organization is designed to respond to something like this,” Dave Smith said.
Due to heavy traffic on Wednesday, officials did not allow seniors to line up overnight at the site.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Coronavirus vaccinations continue throughout the Sunshine State and in some counties with little to no advanced notice.
In Central Florida, Lake County officials gave less than 20 minutes notice before they started immunizing residents and non residents with the COVID-19 vaccine.
The county received 12,600 doses Tuesday afternoon and made the decision to administer 800-1,000 doses Wednesday morning, making the announcement the same morning.

Residents in the county have been left confused after officials changed the vaccination process to require no appointments and said they were unsure when more doses would become available.

Lake County officials have resumed COVID-19 vaccinations on Wednesday after closing this week because they ran out of doses.
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - Lake County officials have resumed COVID-19 vaccinations on Wednesday after closing this week because they ran out of doses.
Department of Health officials said they received 12,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and began vaccinating again at 9 a.m. at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center.
The county was having trouble distributing vaccines all week because they have been waiting for more doses.
