(West Des Moines, IA) Hy-Vee plans to offer COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the Iowa State Fair next month. Flu vaccines will also be offered pending availability.
The vaccination clinics will be held daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 22 at a booth located between the Grand Avenue gate and the Elwell Family Food Center on the west side of the Fairgrounds. No appointment is necessary but each vaccine recipient must stay in the observation area for 15 minutes after they receive their vaccine.
Hy-Vee will offer the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to individuals 12 years of age and older. Janssen vaccines are available for individuals 18 years of age and older, and require a single-dose injection. When the Iowa State Fair returns in August, it will include a new, dedicated space where fairgoers can enjoy tractor pulls, monster trucks meets, rodeos, barbecue competitions and other family-friendly events.
The fair on Monday announced that the Elwell Family Park will open midway through the fair on Aug. 17 and 18 for a tractor pull. Situated in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds, the venue will have seating for up to 2,100, grassy rises for better viewing, a concessions trailer and temporary restrooms.
That s just phase one. Eventually, the park will have seating for 6,000, permanent restrooms and expanded concessions, the fair said in a news release.
