The pandemic has been difficult for people in the art scene in TT and the latest restrictions have forced galleries to close completely.
On May 3 in a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s, the Prime Minister announced that, up to May 23, only essential businesses, such as supermarkets, pharmacies and hardwares, could remain open from 6am to 8 pm.
Lisa Leid, manager of Horizons Art Gallery, on Mucurapo Road, Port of Spain said since the beginning of the year, the gallery had virtual exhibitions.

Naomi Lushington and Lindon Mitchell will hold a joint exhibition at Horizons Art Gallery next week.
Lushington is a relative newcomer to the art scene, this being her second show with Horizons. A media release from Horizon said Lushington turned to art as a method of coping with her intense emotions and found that it always brought her clarity. This intensity and passion are transferred into her paintings.
Working mainly in acrylic, bold colour and a sense of movement are hallmarks of her style. Lushington is continually evolving as an artist, the release said. Her mission is to grab viewers attention with her vibrant colours.

Glen Martin s nostalgic scenes and Karen Hale-Jackson’s serene landscapes will feature in a joint exhibition at Horizon s Art Gallery.
Born in Port of Spain, Martin s talent led him to the prestigious Pratt Institute on full scholarship. It’s there he began to explore the impressionistic approach for which he is well known, said a media release.
The Royal Bank of TT sponsored his first exhibition in 1974, and still retains his work in its permanent collection. Martin has exhibited in Trinidad and abroad, all to great critical acclaim.

THE upcoming Fine Art Market at the Lions Civic Cultural Centre on February 6 will showcase local fine artists. Curator and painter Jacqueline Guzman said her aim is to give young people who might not be able to get into a gallery a chance to exhibit their work.
Guzman said the exhibition would focus on younger artists, although seasoned artists were also welcome.
“There are a lot of young people who are not able to get into galleries, and they may get despondent because they don’t see themselves evolving. I’m giving young people, and all artists, the opportunity to know the dynamic is changing in the art world, that we no longer have to exhibit in a gallery, we can collaborate the other artists in an event like this and have people come and exhibit.”
