Plans to develop a vision for Dalton are underway to help boost the area. Cumbria County Council’s Dalton Town Team is working on the project as part of the Borderlands Place Programme. A spokesman said: We want to hear what makes you proud about Dalton, how you feel about the area and how you might like it to develop in the future.” Two virtual workshops will be held and people are urged to complete an online survey. The first workshop, via Zoom, will be held with organisations representing the business community on Wednesday between 9am and 10.30am. Barrow s MP is supporting a new set of ambitious goals aimed at improving people’s life chances and access to careers in the area. The levelling up goals are the Government s response to the agenda to level up Britain in the recovery from Covid-19. They have been designed by a former cabinet minister, alongside Britain’s leading businesses and universities, to pinpoint key challenges that, if resolved, would create a level playing field on life and job opportunities. Former Secretary of State for education Justine Greening developed the goals with the aim of improving life chances from early years through to adulthood.

Barrow MP Simon Fell welcomes cash boost to Furness’ local councils Simon Fell Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell has welcomed the Government’s announcement that the local councils responsible for delivering services across Furness will see their budget boosted by an average of 3.2 per cent next year. Local authorities in England, including Barrow, South Lakeland and Cumbria County Council, will receive a share of £51.2 billion local government funding next year – up £2.2 billion on this year. Funding for key public services will again be protected, with significant extra resources dedicated to areas where they are needed most. Mr Fell said local councils across Furness will have a combined total of £20.4 million extra to spend next year.
