On Stage Celebrates the Music of Ellyn Rucker Share
On Saturday, March 20, at 10 pm, KUVO’s performance series “On Stage” features the music of local piano heroine Ellyn Rucker. Born and raised in Des Moines, Ellyn started playing piano when she was eight, and classical music was her pursuit at Drake University. After raising her family, she’s been singing, playing and swinging jazz since 1979.
Ellyn’s stylings and virtuosity have earned her a seat next to Marian McPartland on NPR’s “Piano Jazz,” and on tours and festivals around Europe and the U.S. Her recordings are on the Capri and Leisure record labels. She has called Denver her musical home for decades.
The Nightside Before Christmas Share
On December 21, 2015, Andy O’ was at KUVO studios putting together his show the Nightside with Andy O’ a special surprise occasion was in the offing.
Some on air hosts and members of Coyote Poets of the Universe were going to visit and perform holiday poetry live from
Studio Flo for an impromptu holiday special. It was supposed to be live poetry but acoustic guitars and flutes were pulled out and Christmas magic happened live on The Nightside.
The following year the first
“Nightside Before Christmas” elaborated on the previous year’s concept of holiday jazz and poetry. The next few year’s an audience and more performers were added as the show and broadcasted from The Phyllis A Greer Performance Studio.
