Others in the area stepped in to hang onto the boat when the patient started deteriorating, so Higgins could get on the rocks to help Cumming. A rescue helicopter winched two flight medics down to the patient, and decided he needed pain relief so he could be moved to a spot the chopper could winch him out from.
