It was confirmed through the movie pamphlets that these films didn t go into production until 2019 (Part 1) & 2020 (Part 2) so yeah, they were rushed and thanks to the virus outbreak last year, they didn t finish Part 2 in time for it s theatrical premiere, thankfully Netflix got the finished version for that film (not sure if Part 1 had any changes though).
Still, the lack of Toei s line filters is annoying to me since it helped their other productions in recent years since late Dragon Ball Super.

Before people go off the handle, the tweet in question (pinned on https://twitter.com/Tsukiyo Rui pkr) is from a separate account made in March 2019 that seemingly focuses on whatever Tsukiyo Rui does, consisting of over 150 tweets over the course of 2 years, that chiefly accuses him of plagiarism via screenshots of the supposedly stolen lines and their sources across all of their novels. In addition, I have yet to see any evidence of the homophobic tweets. Accusations against the author should be taken with a grain of salt considering the nature of the account and that a significant portion of the supposedly plagiarized lines are those that would be considered a reference in other series.

Something I don t really get about some reactions I ve seen to the series ever since the anime aired is the focus on it being a military propaganda series. Having re-watched the anime more than once and having read both volumes of the manga that I have, I m not sure what about this series is any more objectionable or niche than, say The Saga of Tanya the Evil (aka Youjo Senki 幼女戦記). Both series have events and themes that some may (quite reasonably) find objectionable, but it has long mystified me why GATE seems to get so much more hate for it. If anything, I d think Youjo Senki would attract far more negative attention.
