SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are some promising signs that the COVID-19 surge is over in El Dorado County. If current data continues in the direction it has been headed, El Dorado County is likely near the peak of the post holidays COVID-19 surge.
The surge of cases and hospitalizations began two weeks after Halloween, then continued through the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years holidays.
The El Dorado County Public Health Director Dr. Nancy Williams says we won t reliably know until another week or two has passed if the surge has hit its peak. It typically takes a few days after exposure before people develop illness, additional time before people may seek testing, and yet more time before results are returned, said Dr. Williams. That said, the California Department of Public Health s data dashboard indicates that the current surge statewide seems to have crested and may be subsiding a bit.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A major step in preparing to open schools back up to in-person classes, teachers and staff from Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) are receiving the first of two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The news of the available vaccines came earlier than the District expected.
Since the development of COVID-19 vaccines Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, people and organizations have been working to distribute millions of doses across the nation.
“As we’ve seen throughout this pandemic, the COVID-19 vaccination process is evolving quickly, sometimes daily,” said Jake Vinocur, infection control manager for Barton Health, in a press release. “Check with your county’s health department to learn more or to follow the phased vaccination process.”
Following state and county guidance, Barton established a tiered vaccine distribution plan for its workforce.
With California Department of Public Health approval, Barton received 1,090 doses of Pfizer vaccinations to administer to its staff and physicians beginning in December. In January, Barton received an additional allotment of 1,090 doses.
