The Colorado Supreme Court declined Monday to consider a midvalley citizen group’s request to review its lawsuit over Eagle County government’s approval of the Tree Farm project in El Jebel.
Save Mid Valley founder and midvalley resident Ken Ransford wanted the September 2017 approval of the project revoked on several grounds. They lost a decision at the district court level in 2019 and by the Colorado Court of Appeals in 2020.

Eagle County’s effort to provide COVID-19 vaccinations in the Roaring Fork Valley is getting high marks from people who successfully navigated the system but the process hasn’t worked well for all.
The county has established a vaccination clinic at the Eagle County office building adjacent to Crown Mountain Park to serve its constituents in El Jebel, Basalt and surrounding areas. Vaccines are offered every other Thursday.
Of the national chains with the most outbreaks of COVID-19 in Colorado, some seem to be doing a better job of keeping the virus at bay. But the number of outbreaks at others continues to grow, and so does the size of the outbreaks.
Just two chain outbreaks have spawned more than 100 cases each, while many others have infected dozens of staffers.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. The vast majority of businesses and facilities identified as outbreaks remain open while working with the department to monitor symptoms and prevent future infections.

When the new, larger City Market in Carbondale opened in late August, there was speculation it would eat into Basalt’s sales tax revenues, but early returns indicate grocery stores in both towns continue to flourish.
For the four full months since the Carbondale’s 62,000-square-foot City Market opened, Basalt has experienced growing rather than stagnating retail food sales. Cumulative sales tax collections from retail food sales for those four months were $890,544 up $44,194, or 5%, from the same period in 2019.
Sales tax reports don’t identify taxes paid by individual businesses, so information isn’t available on sales by the El Jebel City Market or Whole Foods.
