BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. â Ten-year-old Brendan Mulvaney has been selling lemonade off his backyard porch for half his life.
In past years he has donated his proceeds to a good cause, and this year that cause is the Saratoga County Fair, just down the road from his house.
When five-year-old Brendan started selling lemonade, it was at first a suggestion from his parents as a way to keep him occupied and try to save some money. Since then, his little operation has grown into something loved by his community, gaining statewide and even federal attention.

The big twist in his annual lemonade stand, operated primarily during fair season because of the increased traffic around his house, came about three years ago. A representative from the state department of health shut Brendan down, because he was operating without a permit. His father Sean made a simple comment on Facebook, stating what had happened and expecting that to be the end of it.
