Inspired by the natural beauty of the Peace River area, the author of Wildwood, Elinor Florence, felt compelled to capture the captivating beauty of the area and used it as the setting for her novel. Florence had first visited the Peace River area decades ago when she had worked as an agriculture reporter for the Western Producer newspaper. One of the Alberta Flying Farmers had taken Florence up in a small airplane, and they had flown up and down the Peace River at sundown. Florence has said that that image has stayed imprinted with her forever.
