Rudy and me: My 1980s legal battle with Giuliani told me who he really was Salon 2 hrs ago © Provided by Salon Rudolph Giuliani Rudolph Giuliani poses for a photographer in a New York City studio December 15, 1986. Yvonne Hemsey/Newsmakers
What has become of Rudy Giuliani? Once the celebrated hero of 9/11, he has become, thanks to his association with Donald Trump, the subject of investigations by the government he once led.
No longer a hero, save to those on the far right, he seems only a subject of ridicule or, more darkly, a felon facing jail time. What could I, a retired college professor who has never met Giuliani, add to the national debate about America s mayor?

BELMONT Seven new members were recently inducted into the Genesee Valley Central School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS).
New members include Emera Aquila, Elizabeth Bentley, Sierra Burrows, Kimberly Butler, Addison Herring, Trenton Scott and Nathan Slawson.
Genesee Valley alumnus, Joshua Deichmann, class of 2014, offered his congratulations to the new members in a pre-recorded video. Joshua spoke on the NHS pillar of service. “True service is more of a posture or a mindset,” commented Joshua. “Try to find a way to serve one person each day. You don’t know what impact it might have.”
During the ceremony, students were presented with their NHS pins and certificates by superintendent Dr. Brian Schmitt and 7-12 Principal Mrs. Sara Donlon.
I wanted to show the world I was all in I grew up in quite an unstable family unit, so I didn t really have any real attachment to my maiden name. By contrast, I have known my husband s parents since I was 18 and always looked up to his dad like a father figure. “There was never a discussion or an expectation that I would change my surname, but I did it as soon as we married. I always felt like retaining your name was a way of saying you re not all that committed to the marriage, and I wanted to show the world that I was all in. Of course, I also wanted to have the same name as our children and even today, with two daughters in primary school, I still smile when I see our names forms. Having my married name makes me happy. – Janka Laszlo
