Helmich recently moved back to the area with his wife, Khristina, and their two sons, Maverick and Forrest. He was in the Army from 2006 to 2010 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with the 101st Airborne/Air Assault as a diesel mechanic. Helmich was also deployed to Iraq from 2008 to 2009. Helmich trained at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, from 2012 to 2019, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in aviation.
