Re “Audit: Ex-mayor and staff misstated facts on 101 Ash St.” (July 23): So the city auditor’s report found that prior San Diego political leadership failed to conduct due diligence on its recent flurry of real estate transactions and that it withheld information and misstated key relevant facts when it recommended the acquisitions to the City Council.
Simply stated, incompetence combined with willful deception is a formula for disaster.
The current administration’s tepid response to the city auditor’s suggested changes to operating practices is equally disappointing and indicates that no important lessons have been learned here. In fact, this is no time for the city to under-react.
