CELORON Several departments responded Monday evening to a fire reported in the village of Celoron. An officer with the Ellicott Police Department reported heavy smoke coming from 44 Duquesne St. around 8 p.m. Firefighters from Celoron and Lakewood responded, and upon arrival officials requested additional crews from Busti and the city of Jamestown. Drug Take Back day is Saturday | News, Sports, Jobs

The 20th National Prescription Drug Take Back day will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, community partners and the Drug Enforcement Administration will provide the public with an opportunity to prevent medication abuse and theft by clearing out their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The event is to raise awareness and help community members dispose of unused or expired prescriptions at locations all across the county, free, anonymously and with no questions asked. “Very often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands that can result in tragedy. National Take Back Day provides hundreds of people the opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and dispose of prescriptions in a safe and anonymous manner” said Kelley Potter, HOPE Chautauqua DFC project director/coalition coordinator.

Celoron Fire Intentionally Set CELORON An investigation remains ongoing for a fire found to be “intentionally set” late Friday inside a vacant apartment in the village.Members of the Celoron Fire Department were called around 11 p.m. for the fire discovered inside one of the units at the Chautauqua Shoreline Apartments, 75 Marine Park Dr. Volunteers with Lakewood assisted at the scene. The county Fire Investigation Team, reviewing the incident with Celoron officials, determined the blaze was intentionally set. Members of the Fire Investigation Team are currently working with the Ellicott Police Department. Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call Ellicott police at 665-7083.
