El Cajon man dies in hospital day after hit-run crash involving tow truck

EL CAJON    A 56-year-old El Cajon man died Wednesday in a hospital one day after he was injured in a hit-and-run crash involving a tow truck on Jamacha Road, authorities said. Bobby Jo Jacobs Jr. was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a tow truck driver Tuesday evening, according to El Cajon police and the county Medical Examiner’s Office. Medics took him to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, where he died late Wednesday night, more than 28 hours after the crash, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Advertisement El Cajon police have said the tow truck was hauling two vehicles about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday when the driver, headed south on Jamacha Road just south of Main, made a sudden turn and collided with another southbound vehicle. The tow truck then crashed into a stand of palm trees outside an apartment complex, and the driver allegedly got out and ran away.
