A recent visit to Abilene, Texas, awakened thoughts of tributes to folks who can paint pictures with few words.
Whatever is said usually doesn’t measure up to sheer artistry, since brush-and-easel greats can land haymakers to writers who are armed only with words.
The use of color and much else conveys mind’s eye images to canvas, thus usually tilting communication effectiveness scales toward artistry.
‘Tis true. Artists worthy of the title typically say more with pictorial skills than those of us who rely merely on words. HOWEVER (caps are used for effect), on rare occasions, words win….

There are two days of events planned for July 3-4 at two locations.
Live music, a car show, parade, vendors and more will be July 3 downtown. First responders will be served a free meal at the Abilene Convention Center. Part of Cypress Street will be closed, and attendees can bring chairs and coolers. Admission is free.
The festival will continue July 4 at the Taylor County Expo Center with live music, food trucks, kids activities and more. Outdoor concert will feature Neal McCoy, Chris Colston and Jerrod Medulla.
General admission tickets at Expo Center are $25 (plus $2.84 fee) for 16 and older, $5 (plus $1.36 fee) for 10-15 and free for 9 and younger. First responders, active military, veterans, frontline workers (such as medical personnel) and immediate family members get in free with proper identification.
