JANESVILLE
Crowds of people did not swarm through the Janesville Community Center for Sundayâs mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinic, but that was by design.
Officials at SSM Health, the host of Sundayâs clinic, wanted the event to feel intimate and community-based as a way of welcoming neighbors and showing them the clinic was a service designed for them.
âPart of our mission is caring for the entire community,â said Eric Thornton, president of SSM Health St. Maryâs Hospital-Janesville.
Caring for the whole community means reaching out to people where they are, even if they are not SSM Health patients, Thornton said.
COVID-19 vaccine scheduling processes likely will remain the same next week after thousands more people become eligible in Rock County, local health officials said.
Wisconsinites ages 16 and older with certain medical conditions will be eligible for the coronavirus vaccine starting Monday, a week earlier than previously announced, Gov. Tony Evers said Tuesday.
Qualifying conditions include moderate to severe asthma, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, Down syndrome, and being overweight with a body mass index of 25 or above. Pregnant women are also eligible.
Rock County residents can expect to see a new vaccine request form for people with medical conditions soon, said Jessica Turner, spokeswoman for the Rock County Public Health Department.
Norwell beats Angola 55-48 to advance to regional final
VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette
Norwell girls basketball beat Angola 55-48 in the Bellmont regional semifinal on Saturday morning to advance to the regional final for a second year in a row.
Angola ends its season with a 19-6 record and remains in search of its first regional title.
The teams were tied 10 after the first quarter and the Hornets actually outscored Norwell 23-16 in the final period, but Norwell got enough separation during the second and third quarters, outscoring Angola 29-15 during that stretch.
The first few minutes of the second half were particularly key for the Knights as they came out of halftime with a 26-18 lead and sophomore Skyla Tomasek and senior Kaylee Fuelling immediately hit back-to-back shots to stretch that advantage to 29-18. The lead would grow to 15 points and remain there for much of the third quarter.

After splitting two matchups prior to the postseason, Garrett and Angola will meet for the third time tonight in Garrett with a sectional championship on the line. The Railroaders, ranked third in Class 3A, knocked off Woodlan in the first semifinal Friday at Garrett, 50-28, with the No. 13 Hornets following up by defeating Bishop Dwenger in the nightcap, 53-37.
Garrett (20-2) finished the regular season unbeaten against Northeast Corner Conference foes, though Angola (18-5) did hand the Railroaders a defeat in the NECC Tournament back on Jan. 13 – the only team to notch a win in regulation against Garrett this year.
