The King George V Playing Fields committee received the funding from Wales and West Housing Association. But while money is guaranteed for this specific project, the committee have launched an urgent cash plea to keep the park open after revealing that because they have been unable to hold fund-raising events they cannot cover expenses. These include general maintenance, cutting grass, hedges and removing litter, maintenance for the safety of the play equipment and insurances which amount to over £3,000 each year. “Under normal circumstances, the committee arrange various events, such as the annual fireworks display in Newcastle Emlyn - the money raised from these would usually cover the ongoing costs,” said the spokesperson.
