Men’s pursuit title goes to Jacquelin
French biathlete Emilien Jacquelin is the winner of Sunday’s pursuit race at the World Championships in Pokljuka. With a perfect shooting record, he clinched the title from Sweden’s Sebastian Samuelsson. Johannes Thingnes Bo of Norway won bronze.
The surprise winner of yesterday’s sprint, Swedish competitor Martin Ponsiluoma, had the best position at the outset, but he missed two targets on the opening shooting to create an opportunity for his pursuers.
The 25-year-old Jacquelin, who is considered a supreme runner, was neck-an-neck with Bo in the second round and unlike Bo hit all targets to emerge victorious.
Norway’s Tiril Eckhoff secured a hat-trick of titles at the
International Biathlon Union World Championships by triumphing in the
women’s pursuit event in Pokljuka today.
Sweden’s Ponsiluoma clinches men’s sprint gold at IBU World Championships Friday, 12 February 2021
Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma captured the men’s 10 kilometre sprint title at the International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Championships in Pokljuka.
Ponsiluoma shot cleanly while outskiing all of his rivals to clinch top spot in 24min 41.1sec in the Slovenian resort.
It was his second medal in the space of three days having helped Sweden secure bronze in the 4x7.5km mixed relay. It is hard to believe, said Ponsiluoma who finished 11.2 ahead of his nearest challenger. It just feels amazing. It is hard to say (that I could hold the lead), I knew there were many strong athletes behind me.

France earn men s relay victory at IBU World Cup in Oberhof Friday, 15 January 2021
France’s Simon Desthieux, Quentin Fillon Maillet, Fabien Claude and Emilien Jacquelin celebrated victory in the men’s 4 x 7.5 kilometres relay event in Oberhof.
The quartet used six spare rounds during the event in the German town, triumphing in a time of 1 hour, 22min, 28sec.
Jacquelin produced a strong anchor leg of the race to hold off the challenge of Norway, who finished as the runners-up.
Velte Sjaastad Christiansen, Johannes Dale, Tarjei Boe and Johannes Thingnes Boe ended just 4.2 behind the winners.
Jacquelin, who won mixed relay gold with Julia Simon five days ago, thanked his team-mates for their trust in anchoring the team home.
