Carlos do Carmo, the singer who represented Portugal at Eurovision 1976 has passed away aged 81.
Yesterday evening the singer was admitted to the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, where he passed away due to an aneurysm early this morning.
Carlos represented Portugal at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest, the first contest after the revolution. With his song “Uma flor de verde pinho”, he finished in 12th place at the contest in The Hague, Netherlands.
The singer had an extensive discography, his first being released in 1967 (
Não Se Morre de Saudade), and the last in 2015 (
Um Homem No Mundo). He received multiple awards for his craft, including a Portuguese Golden Globe in 1998 and a Goya Award in 2008. He was also the first Portuguese artist to win a Latin Grammy Award in 2014.
