Shannon Webb-Campbell’s poem “Their World View is a New Home in an Ancient Land” includes a wry opening stanza: “if you think you can hold dominion over flora and fauna, / that a body and life can be property, / you’d better try buying a constellation.” More importantly, it is the source of the book’s title, and appears right in the middle of
I Am A Body of Land, which gives readers a clear heads-up; this is the fulcrum point.
Prior to “Their World View…” Webb-Campbell grapples with the collapse of both her social life and her sense of self after Book hug’s publication and subsequent withdrawal of
Political infrastructure battles are nothing new. The industry booming so much it can’t keep up. Why some Black neighborhoods are struggling.
The infrastructure fight is about the future of America: Today’s partisan debate about the meaning of infrastructure is not just about what gets built where, but about what kind of country the US will be in the future. This echoes the debates of roughly 200 years ago, which evoked the same fear of change and loss of status-quo power that many had when they fought against canal and rail construction in the 1820s. Lumber is booming: Lumber prices have skyrocketed in the past year, thanks to soaring demand from the housing market and bored pandemic DIYers. But the industry never saw it coming as it has been shrinking for the last 12 post-recession years, and people thought the pandemic would make it worse. The lack of inventory has turned lumber into a precious commodity and spurred memes and TikToks about the high

Robert Backer: Lumber Costs Impacting Home Prices Tuesday, May 4, 2021 - by Robert Backer, president, Greater Chattanooga Realtors
There’s a chance you’ve heard the cost of lumber has skyrocketed over the past year, and if you or someone you know has bought a newly constructed home, I can guarantee you’ve heard about it, including a curse word or two. Emily Stewart, senior reporter for Vox, recently wrote of the lumber increases, “For years, the price of 1,000 board feet of lumber has generally traded in the $200 to $400 range. It’s now well above $1,000. (One board foot is 12x12x1 inches, and the average new single-family home takes about 16,000 board feet of lumber to construct.) A new house that would have cost $10,000 in wood to get off the ground a couple of years ago now costs $40,000 worth of wood assuming, that is, you can even get your hands on the lumber.”
