The Neighborhood Planning Initiative, an agreement between Potter County and city officials aimed at injecting new vitality into targeted areas, continues to demonstrate a slow and steady return on investment.
Specifically, the initiative is aimed at reinvigorating four Amarillo neighborhoods: North Heights, the Barrio, San Jacinto and Eastridge. It employs a collaborative approach where city and county officials work with community members to identify concerns and establish priorities aimed at progress.
The Potter County Commissioners’ Court heard an update on the plan during its most recent meeting. Precinct 3 Commissioner John Coffee, the court’s newest member, asked for the update.
Commissioners Court receives update on Neighborhood Planning Initiative
During Monday’s regular meeting of the Potter County Commissioners’ Court, members of the court received a progress report on the Neighborhood Planning Initiative, created by an interlocal agreement between the county and the city of Amarillo in 2016.
According to previous reports by the Amarillo Globe-News, this initiative was to put revitalization efforts in motion for four neighborhoods within the city limits of Amarillo including North Heights, the Barrio, San Jacinto and Eastridge.
The entities, including community members as well as representatives from the commissioners court and the city of Amarillo, collaborate to identify concerns, opportunities as well as goals and project priorities for each respective neighborhood.
The Potter County Commissioners Court is expected to receive a Neighborhood Planning Initiative progress report during Monday s regular session. Precinct Three Commissioner John Coffee requested during the Court s Feb. 22 session the information be presented.
Per the city s website, the Neighborhood Planning initiative was created via a 2016 interlocal agreement between the City of Amarillo and Potter County to aid revitalization of some of the city s older neighborhoods through the development of area-specific plans. The city and neighborhoods collaborate to identify concerns, opportunities, a vision, goals and project priorities. The four participating neighborhoods are North Heights, the Barrio, San Jacinto and Eastridge.
