Spokane food pantry in search of families to feed gets its wish

KXLY February 18, 2021 8:22 PM Emily Oliver SPOKANE, Wash. A local food pantry searching for families to feed during the pandemic is getting its wish. The Better Living Center used to feed about 1,200 families a month, but that number dropped significantly during the pandemic. So, organizers at the center enlisted 4 News Now to help spread the message. “If you need food, you’re hurting, and it’s just so important to have a place that people can come and fill up their trunk with good food and take it to their families,” said Gayle Haeger, executive director at The Better Living Center.

Davenport Hotels prepare to once again host weddings in Phase 2

KXLY February 18, 2021 4:31 PM Emily Oliver SPOKANE, Wash. The Davenport is preparing to once again host weddings and other events now that the state is fully in Phase 2, the hotel chain announced Thursday.  It’s been almost a year since pandemic closures prohibited large gatherings and social events, forcing many to put their big day on hold.  In Phase 2, statewide guidelines will once again allow weddings, funerals, and other large gatherings to operate, as long as they don’t exceed 200 people or 25% of room capacity, whichever is less.  Vendors are not included in that metric, and social distancing must be able to be maintained between groups. If food or drinks are being served, state guidelines must be followed. That means tables must be spaced six feet apart, and cannot exceed six people from more than two households at a time.

Renovations are currently underway at Baba. When it opens this coming Tuesday, you’ll find the restaurant  in the same spot where The Wandering Table once operated.  Chef Adam Hegsted announced the temporary closure of the popular restaurant back in December, highlighting the need to adapt through COVID restrictions.  “As more and more great restaurants continue to open and operate, we have decided that our time to refocus our energies into something new is now,” Hegsted said at the time.
