The BNP has termed unacceptable the government s reasoning on legal grounds for not accepting the application from BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia s family to allow her to go abroad for treatment. They [government] said they can t allow Khaleda Zia to go abroad [for treatment]. They have given some reasons which are absolutely unacceptable and lame. They said there is no precedence of sending convicts abroad. They are trying to mislead people, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday.
He made the remarks at a press conference at the BNP chairperson s political office in Gulshan in response to remarks made by several ministers regarding the application for sending Khaleda abroad.

The Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has expressed readiness to commence investigation into medical procedures that led to the death of Mrs Peju Ugboma and Ms Omolara Owoyajowo in Ogun and Lagos States respectively.
Chief Executive of the commission, Babatunde Irukera, in a statement stated that information gathered so far is sufficient for the commission to open an active investigation into these cases.
“As such, the commission has issued Notices of Commencement of Investigation & Summons to Produce (NCISP) to relevant persons/entities.
“The commission is also communicating with the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to expand engagement to the extent that any pertinent conduct may be otherwise unprofessional and, or may be subject of any disciplinary process (if applicable).”

The BNP chief, however, is now able to breathe without respiratory support, Fakhrul said at a news conference in Dhaka on Tuesday. “Her pressure, temperature and oxygen saturation are now normal.”
There are, however, some lingering health issues that pose a threat, he said. “She has kidney issues. That’s a real problem. She also has heart issues. The doctors are still extremely concerned. They are continuing their efforts and their prayers.”

Nigerians are demanding justice for a businesswoman, Peju Ugboma, and a Lagos State Emergency Management Agency call centre agent, Omolara Omoyajowo, who both died due to alleged negligence by doctors and nurses at two different private hospitals in Lagos and Ogun states.
However, the Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency said an order had been given for a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of Peju.
