DRUG BUST: Nine 1m cannabis plants in Cap Coast backyard

Premium Content Police found nine cannabis plants, all about 1m tall, growing in a Keppel Sands backyard. The December 13 drug bust led to Russell Fredrick Hinga, 47, facing Yeppoon Magistrates Court on Thursday. There he pleaded guilty to cannabis production and possession, as well as a drug utensils charge. The court heard that during a search warrant executed at the Limpus Avenue property, police also seized 143g of cannabis leaf, two bongs and three grinders. Magistrate Jason Schubert was told that Hinga had one entry of a like nature on his history from 2003. Representing himself in court, Hinga did not have anything to say about his offending when asked.

Yeppoon P-plater had 20 drinks before driving

Premium Content Subscriber only Ivan Mark Davenport, 29, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on Thursday to drink-driving. The court heard that police spoke to Davenport at 2am on November 29 while attending Rawlings St at Yeppoon in relation to another matter. During those conversations, Davenport admitted he had driven there from Tanby after consuming about 20 drinks. He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.119. Prison inmate appeals sentence from Yeppoon magistrate

Premium Content A ROCKHAMPTON prison inmate has appealed to have his sentence reduced. Numaka Dowling has filed an appeal in the Rockhampton District Court with the Queensland Police Service. The appeal relates to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, for which he was charged on March 15, 2020. Mr Dowling was sentenced in the Yeppoon Magistrates Court on October 29 by Magistrate Jason Schubert. According to the appeal, for one charge he was given 15 months probation and $500 compensation and for the second charge he was ordered to three months imprisonment with a 15 month suspension and $1000 compensation. Standard probation as per terms was ordered and convictions recorded.

Luke Thomas Stephen Garner, 21, was sentenced in the Supreme Court at Rockhampton after pleading guilty to one count of malicious act with intent. Garner was discharged on the more serious charge of attempted murder. The court heard details of last year’s March 9 stabbing incident at Lammermoor which involved 25-year-old victim Dominic Patrick Vidler. After falling asleep, Mr Vidler was woken by someone stabbing his right shoulder. He ran out of the room, unable to identify who had attacked him.
