Questioning the export of Covid 19 vaccines when the country is facing “vaccine starvation”, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to place an immediate moratorium on vaccine export. In a letter to Modi here on Friday, Gandhi urged the Centre to provide vaccine suppliers with necessary resources to increase manufacturing capacity.
He said there should be fast track approval of other vaccines as per norms and guidelines. He asked the Centre to open up vaccination to everyone who needs it. He demanded the Centre to double the allocation for vaccine procurement from the existing ₹35,000 crore. The Registrar-General of India (RGI) is preparing to conduct field trials of the first phase of the Census and the National Population Register (NPR) using a mobile application in all the States and Union Territories, a senior government official told
The Hindu.
The first phase involving house listing and housing census, along with updating the NPR, was scheduled from April 1 last year, but was postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic. It is unlikely that the exercise will be conducted this year as the vaccination drive is still at an early stage.

Following a year of debilitating problems, restoring India’s image in 2021 will not be easy
The year 2020 was a debilitating one for much of the world, India included. India had more than its share of problems. As 2020 comes to a close, it might be worthwhile to take a hard look at these issues to ensure that 2021 does not become another wasted year.

History bears testimony to the fact that peaceful expression of public concern has been a hallmark of a robust democracy. India as the largest and a well-functioning democracy has also been an effective breeding ground for nurturing a culture that has consolidated citizens’ right to free expression regarding all issues that concerns their life and well-being.
In tandem with the nation’s deep-rooted spirit of democratic expression and dissent, the country is witnessing a protracted farmers’ protest against the three farm laws that was passed by the Parliament earlier this year. Despite concerted attempts by the Central government to allay the fears of the farmers regarding the contentious legislations, the furore over the issue refuses to die down.
