Print article Senate Bill 14 would be the next step in weakening the judicial wing of our state government and adding power to the governor’s arsenal. We have just seen, on a national scale, what happens when the chief executive can stack the deck in his favor we don’t need it in our state. Scandal and corruption have popped up in nearly every phase of Alaska politics during past decades, except the judicial system. We have been proud of our judicial branch, and for good reason. Once politicians have the ability to seat judges favorable to their views, the expectation of objectivity and fairness will be lost.
