A decision on the Centre s offer for next round of talks will be taken after consulting farmers leaders from across the country on Wednesday, said cultivators protesting at the borders of Delhi on Tuesday as Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar said he was hopeful that the unions will soon resume discussions to end the deadlock.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan declined approval for a special assembly session planned on Wednesday to discuss and pass a resolution against the three contentious central farm laws, against which farmers have been protesting near Delhi.
Khan s decision on Tuesday evoked a sharp response from the government side with Agricultural Minister V S Sunil Kumar calling it undemocratic , while opposition Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said it was unfortunate and against democratic values .
The state BJP welcomed the governor s action, saying the attempt to pass a resolution against the laws passed by Parliament and given assent by the President was unconstitutional.

The Kerala government has decided to convene a special session of the state Assembly on December 23 to pass a resolution against the farm laws.
Two weeks after it took a call not to implement the controversial laws that have led to nationwide protests, the state government held a cabinet meeting on Monday to decide on the special session to formally register its opposition to the three farm laws.
A source at the chief minister’s office said the cabinet has recommended state governor Arif Mohammed Khan to convene the one-hour session on Wednesday morning. While chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan would move the resolution, leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala of the Congress and heads of all parties would be allowed to speak on the motion before passing it.

The State government has not received gubernatorial consent to convene the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday to discuss and reject the new farm laws.
Governor Arif Muhammad Khan has reportedly asked the government to convince him of the emergency that warranted an extraordinary one-day session. He had assented to the convening of the Assembly on January 8 for the budget session.
The government had sought the approval of Mr. Khan to convoke the Assembly to pass a unanimous resolution against the Centre s farm laws. The Governor reportedly questioned the merit of the request.
