Expressing solidarity with the agitating farmers in Delhi, the Kerala Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution demanding the immediate withdrawal of the three contentious central laws, saying they were anti-farmer and pro-corporate and would push the farming community into a deep crisis.
In a rare gesture, not only the legislators of the ruling CPI(M)-headed LDF and Congress-led UDF, but the lone BJP member in the 140-member state Assembly, O Rajagopal, also supported the resolution against the Centre, saying it is the democratic spirit.
Mohammed Khan on Monday gave his assent for convening the state assembly for a one-day special session on December 31 to discuss and pass a resolution against the three contentious central farm laws against which farmers are agitating in Delhi. Raj Bhavan sources told PTI that the Governor has given the nod for the session, days after the CPI-M led LDF government sent a fresh proposal to convene the assembly after he had turned down an earlier recommendation. Even for the December 31 session, Khan sought some clarifications and the government had provided them. The session would be for a duration of one hour and commence at 9 AM, assembly sources said.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Monday gave his assent for convening the state assembly for a one-day special session on 31 December to discuss and pass a resolution against the three contentious central farm laws against which farmers are agitating in Delhi.
Raj Bhavan sources told
PTI that the Governor has given the nod for the session, days after the CPM-led LDF government sent a fresh proposal to convene the assembly after he had turned down an earlier recommendation.
I hope the Governor will give approval to convene the special session. According to the Parliamentary system in our country, a Governor usually gives approval for a decision taken by a government having majority, Vijayan told reporters.
Khan s decision on Tuesday had evoked a sharp response from the government side with Agricultural Minister V S Sunil Kumar calling it undemocratic , while opposition Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said it was unfortunate and against democratic values .
However, the state BJP had welcomed the governor s action, saying the attempt to pass a resolution against the laws passed by Parliament and given assent by the President was unconstitutional.
