Six years’ jail for teacher who repeatedly raped 12-year-old student The Court of Criminal Appeal confirmed a six-year prison sentence given to a teacher who sexually abused a student 5 May 2021, 4:13pm by Matthew Agius The Court of Criminal Appeal has confirmed a six-year prison sentence handed to a teacher who sexually abused a student for a four-year period between 1992 and 1996. Alexander Giacomotto, 69, of Birkirkara, was arrested in 2007 after the boy opened up to his girlfriend and was encouraged to tell the police. The victim was targeted when he was just 12 years old and carried on till he was 16. He had been taken by his teacher to his Qawra apartment, where he was plied with alcohol and shown pornography. The boy was subsequently pressed to perform a sex act on the man.

Degiorgio brothers get access to Koħħu s testimony to magistrate

Daphne Caruana Galizia murder suspects George and Alfred Degiorgio are to receive access to testimony their former co-accused Vince Muscat gave to a magistrate leading an inquiry into the 2017 murder.  A court ruled on Friday that the brothers are entitled to see what Muscat, known as il-Koħħu, told an inquiring magistrate about the murder. But the court also found that they have no valid claim to copies of statements Muscat gave to the police.  The decree given by judge Edwina Grima paves the way for Muscat to face cross-examination by a lawyer representing the Degiorgio brothers in the case.
